Body of Work
Bangiwe has worked as a dance instructor, singer, actor, dancer and has toured in Africa, Europe, Brazil, Taipei and the United States. Bangiwe’s first musical experience was with Tim Plewman & Bill Flyn’s ‘Fangs: The Comedy Musical’, where after he formed part of the original South African Production of Disney’s, ‘The Lion King’ (Swing/Dance Captain). He continued to perform the same role in Taipei and Germany (Der Konig Der Lowen) as well as performing as a singer in Sao Paulo, Brazil (O Rei Leao). Bisi is in partnership with Guilherme Duarte, a co-founder of the Amandla Danca Teatro (South African/Afro Brazilian Arts company) and Writer/Composer Mkhululi Mabija. Bangiwe works with the youth around South Africa in art projects such as ‘Dare To Dream’; ‘Hands On’; Galeshewe Theatre Organization, the Field Band Foundation and the Amandla Dança Teatro.
He was seen dancing at The Rafto Prize Awards in Bergen, Norway. He further formed part of the European Tour ‘14 with the Field Band Foundation, as well as being a dancer at the Gauteng Sports Awards. He was an Assistant Choreographer to Paul Modjadji at the South African Arts and Culture International (Beijing China) Event. Bisi has recently been seen performing in Janice Honeyman’s pantomime, ‘The Sleeping Beauty’, staged at the Joburg Theatre. His choreography for ‘Clues on the Sand’, which was written and directed by Moagi Modise, premiered at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. ‘Emathongeni (Visions)’, which was a collaborative work with Mkhululi Mabija and Neo Lemphote, was more recently performed at the Mayibuye Arts Centre in Galeshewe, Kimberley, adding to the repertoire of work Bisi has also been doing as choreographer for Mkhululi's ‘My Daughter/Son’.
